Bio

Ana Arroyo Vega es estudiante graduada de la maestría en Administración y Gestión Cultural. Obtuvo su bachillerato en Literatura Comparada de la Facultad de Humanidades y una concentración menor del Programa de Estudios de Mujer y Género de la Facultad de Estudios Generales. Ha colaborado en varios proyectos como en la creación del Archivo Digital Juan Mari Brás en el año académico 2022-23 como parte del Programa Scholars in Residence in the Digital Humanities y junto a la artista Ivana Cotto, creó la obra titulada “Libro Abierto”, la cual se exhibió en el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. Su primer poemario “Mientras mi perra duerme” fue publicado bajo el sello de la Editorial Pulpo en marzo 2024. También, ha publicado textos en revistas digitales, en una antología de poesía y su fotografía forma parte de “Que Tiemble” por Ana Portnoy Brimmer. Actualmente, es asistente graduada de investigación en UPR Caribe Digital. Además, le encantan los perros y las flores.

Ana Arroyo Vega is a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in Cultural Administration and Management. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from the College of Humanities and a minor in the Women and Gender Studies Program at the College of General Studies. She has collaborated on several projects, such as the creation of the Juan Mari Brás Digital Archive during the 2022-23 academic year as part of the Scholars in Residence in the Digital Humanities Program. She also collaborated with artist Ivana Cotto on the work “Libro Abierto,” which was exhibited at the Puerto Rico Museum of Art. Her first collection of poems, “Mientras mi perra duerme,” was published by Editorial Pulpo in March 2024. She has also published texts in digital magazines and in a poetry anthology, and her photography is featured in “Que Tremble” by Ana Portnoy Brimmer. She is currently a graduate research assistant at UPR Caribe Digital. She also loves dogs and flowers.

  • Worked on the edition of content and validation of interactive activities in elementary school digital books.

Freelance Graphic Designer

  • Designed and worked on the book “Ese lugar violento que llamamos normalidad” published in risograph by La impresora in 2022. I also designed a poster for the Algebraic Structures in topology, II mini courses and conference offered in Puerto Rico by Purdue University in 2024 (https://tinyurl.com/3h2y7n98). Additionally, designed the logo for “Archivo Santaliz” with Kairiana Nuñez Santaliz.

Freelance Photographer

  • Worked as a photographer for the Feria de Libros Independientes y Alternativos (FLIA) in December 2023 and 2024. I also worked as a photojournalist in the student-led organization Pulso estudiantil during the protests calling for the resignation of ex-governor Ricky Roselló in the summer of 2019. I also worked in other protests, plays, fashion shows and other student-led activities. Some of the photographs I took during the protests were published in “Que Tiemble” by Ana Portnoy Brimmer in risograph by La Impresora in 2023.

  • Worked as a Graduate Summer Intern in the “Archivo General de Puerto Rico”.

UPR Caribe Digital (August 2022-May 2023)

  • Worked as a Scholar in Residence in the Digital Humanities program sponsored by the Mellon Foundation. Created and published a digital archive in OMEKA, titled “Archivo Digital Juan Mari Brás”, for documents and items donated by Fundación Juan Mari Brás to the Biblioteca y Hemeroteca Puertorriqueña of the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus. Also, created additional content using StorymapJS and TimelineJS (https://tinyurl.com/mvjvzdy7).

  • Created and exhibited a multimedia artwork titled “Libro Abierto” in the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico, in collaboration with the artist Ivana Cotto.

Lectura y Micrófono Abierto

  • I participated in this event organized by the Women and Gender Studies Program of the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus, as part of the 16 days of activism agaisnt gender violence and in commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in November 2023.

Actividad de Cierre

  • Presented, alongside Angely Díaz Torres, the “Archivo Digital Juan Mari Brás” that we created to preserve and make accessible diverse documents that reveal the history, character, and many social struggles that Juan Mari Brás faced in his lifetime. The archive contains materials that help showcase his worldly vision and his dedication to the independence movement of Puerto Rico. To achieve this, we worked hard to organize, describe, and digitalize the materials that were donated by Fundación Juan Mari Brás to the Colección Puertorriqueña del Sistema de Bibliotecas of the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras in May 2023.
